Why working with Grace felt different?

Volunteer of the Year Farmers Branch Fire Department

Greg Lawler, retired Fire Captain, was honored as Volunteer of the Year for continued service and involvement within the local fire community.
Many see retirement as the time to step away—to hang up the uniform and close that chapter. For Greg, it marked a transition.
What was once a responsibility to protect the community has evolved into preparing others to act in the moments before help arrives.
From Greg
Service does not end at retirement—it evolves into mentorship, education, and continued engagement.
That same commitment lives on through Grace Under Fire—helping businesses and communities stay prepared, informed, and ready when it matters most.

Mentoring the Next Generation

At Grace Under Fire, we take pride in mentoring individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in the fire service. Whether you are just starting to explore the path or actively working toward it, we offer guidance, real-world perspective, and honest insight into what the job truly requires.
This profession is built on discipline, commitment, and service—and we believe those values are worth passing on.
We also invite those we’ve worked with to share their journey.
Recruits and candidates can submit their experiences, lessons learned, and progress—and we will feature those stories here to support and inspire others considering the same path.
Because the fire service isn’t just a career—it’s a calling, and it starts long before the first day on the job.

Encouraging You to Join the Citizens Fire Academy

The Citizens Fire Academy (CFA) offers community members a meaningful opportunity to understand how firefighters think, train, and respond, building connections between the public and the fire service through shared responsibility and respect. Participants gain insight into training, emergency decision-making, fire behavior, rescue operations, and community risk reduction. For many, the experience reshapes how they view preparedness, at home, at work, and in the community.

CFA graduates often leave with increased confidence, situational awareness, and a practical safety mindset they carry forward. We believe programs like CFA help people move through the world more prepared, not fearful, and more engaged in prevention.

What is the 20-Second Business Fire Safety Spotlight?

It’s a quick, real-time look at a business’s fire safety culture—focused on three things:
We film on the spot and highlight what stands out in those areas. Then we turn the camera to the business:

They introduce themselves, their location, & share what makes them stand out.

Why it matters

It’s not just about fire safety
it’s about recognizing businesses that take pride in what they do and how they protect it.

FIRE SERVICE HERITAGE

Radio Program

Public safety education has evolved over decades. One of the earliest fire department radio programs helped bring fire prevention awareness to large audiences long before modern media.
We value that history.
It reflects a long-standing commitment to educating communities before emergencies occur — not simply responding after them.• [ Listen to Fire Service Radio Archive ]
Understanding where fire prevention communication began reinforces why preparedness still matters today.

Duty of Care Program

Families who open their homes to foster children carry a special responsibility. Grace Under Fire supports that commitment by providing no-cost in-home fire extinguisher inspections throughout the DFW area.
